December 8, 2006, Newsletter Issue #29: Hot Tubs Help Reduce the Need for Insulin

Tip of the Week

Even if you can't exercise, a hot tub for diabetes sufferers can help reduce the effects of diabetes on your body. A hot tub simulates some forms of exercise by increasing blood flow and circulation throughout the body. A recent study showed that blood sugar levels were reduced in patients who used a hot tub every day for at least 30 minutes. However, one of those patients actually reduced the insulin he needed to manage his disease simply by enjoying a hot tub soak every day. While these results may not be the same for everyone, they do indicate that warm water helps control a variety of ailments, and it could help mange diabetes for many sufferers, too.
